The area of Thumana was affected by the 2019 earthquake and also by the global pandemic, causing the community to need intervention to normalize social life. The school environments are damaged due to the earthquake and are still under construction, which makes them inaccessible.
Likewise, the part of informal education or the organization of social activities or training for young people is almost non-existent. Currently, the area of Thumana is really isolated from activities and programs of this type. The presence of a multifunctional center in Thumana and the provision of training for young people will increase the youth activism of the area by involving a large number of young people.
Through this project, it is intended to achieve a large involvement of local youth, thus promoting youth activism in an area where such initiatives have never been undertaken. We aim to train more than 60 young people on how to build and manage a local campaign for environmental protection, who at the end of the project will continue as an independent group to manage and campaign on other issues of community concern.
The Thumane Multifunctional Center is the only center with such features in the entire area, which is available to young people and has as its main objective the revitalization of the social life of the area.
Providing a varied calendar of social activities with different themes will increase the youth activism of the area by involving a large number of young people. At the end of the program, the center will remain at the disposal of the community and young volunteers of the area.
